FELTON, Del. (AP) - Transportation officials in Delaware say trash dumped along the side of the road has become an increasing health and safety concern.
WBOC-TV reports all but 10 recorded instances this year of discarded building materials and appliances believed to contain asbestos happened in Kent County. Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman C.R. McLeod says taxpayers across the state are on the hook to pay for removing the trash.
DelDOT officials suggest people call police to report illegally dumped items along the side of the road. A state law allows officials to levy hundreds of dollars in fines at people caught illegally dumping large amounts of trash.
