Former Dover Councilman Charged in Hitting LGBTQ Parade Organizer

mug shot

Former Dover council member Reuben Salters is facing a third-degree vehicular assault charge after he hit an organizer of an LGBTQ event.

WBOC reports that the 90-year-old Salters is also charged with failing to obey a traffic device.

Authorities say Salters tried to avoid a barrel barricade used to close off a street for The Delaware Pride Festival.

They say on Saturday morning he got out of his truck to move the barrels when he was confronted by a 43-year-old organizer of the event.

Police say he got back into his truck and knocked down the organizer who was injured in his legs.

WBOC says that authorities do not believe there is any evidence that this was a hate crime.
