Delaware Lawmakers Consider Snow Bill

Don Rush

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Just in time for spring, Delaware lawmakers are targeting drivers who don't clear off ice and snow from their vehicles before getting behind the wheel.

A Senate bill introduced Wednesday is aimed at protecting motorists from chunks of ice and snow flying off vehicles in front of them.

The bill allows police officers to stop snow-covered vehicles and ticket drivers with penalties ranging from $25 to $75.

For an incident in which snow or ice dislodged from a moving vehicle causes property damage or personal injury, the driver could be fined between $200 and $1,000, or between $500 and $1,500 for the driver of a commercial vehicle.

Similar legislation passed the Senate in 2016 and 2017 but never received a final vote in the House.
