Inmates Charged in Death of Delaware Correctional Officer

joe simon

Sixteen inmates at the Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna have been charged with first degree murder in the death of corrections officer Steven Floyd during the uprising in February.

Another two are facing charges in connection with his death.

It’s taken eight months for charges to be brought but WBOC reports that the attorney for the Floyd family Thomas Nueberger said that it was a welcome development.

Over the summer Governor John Carney had expressed a sense of frustration that charges had not yet been filed in Floyd’s death.

Geoff Klopp, president of the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware, said his members have been constantly asking about the status of the case.
