MANCHESTER, Md. (AP) - A tree fell at a summer camp during a strong thunderstorm, killing one child and injuring six others.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s office says that a storm struck about 7 p.m. last night when about 114 children ages 7 to 12 were attending an event at a hillside pavilion in the River Valley Ranch camp in Manchester.
As the storm approached, the children were brought to a nearby shelter on the hill.
Authorities say the tree fell on them when they were en route, injuring seven children.
Authorities said one of the children later died from his injuries.
The other six received injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
