Celebrating Juneteenth

The nation celebrated Juneteenth when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to inform the slaves that they were free. Delmarva Public Media's Don Rush talked with Kirkland Hall, president of the Somerset County Branch of the NAACP, about the significance of the date and the struggles ahead for the country.

Don Rush is the News Director and Senior Producer of News and Public Affairs at Delmarva Public Media. An award-winning journalist, Don reports major local issues of the day, from sea level rise, to urban development, to the changing demographics of Delmarva.
