Allen Harim is shutting the door on its facility in Cordova, Maryland effecting around 300 employees.
The processing operation will be moved to a facility in Delaware.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that jobs at other plants will be offered to the effected employees.
Chief Executive Steven Evans said that while it was a difficult decision – especially for the employees – it will make the company more competitive.
He told the News Journal that the reasons ranged from the age of the plant which is 71 years old to a shift in the product mix and greater efficiency.
