WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (AP) - NASA is preparing to begin construction of a new $6 million fire station on Wallops Island.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Friday.
The space agency says the 16,900 square-foot facility is expected to be completed in late summer 2016. It will be located on the island's north end. The existing fire station is located on the island's south end.
NASA says the new station will reduce response time to facilities on the north end.
The agency also plans to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 2 for the Education Resource Center at the NASA Visitor Center.
