Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matt Maciarello said yesterday no criminal charges will be filed against two Maryland state police officers involved in the shooting death of Winfield Fisher in April at the state barrack in Salisbury.
Captain Anthony Myers was struck by Winfield’s car as the suspect left the barrack after initially coming in with a repair order for his 1995 Oldsmobile 98.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that both Myers and fellow trooper Jeffrey Wilkins fired their weapons at Fisher’s car which subsequently crashed north of the barrack on Route 13.
He died from a gunshot to the torso.
The officers said that Fisher came in smelling of marijuana and admitted that he was a user but did not smoke any that morning.
Maryland State Police records say that two clear plastic bags with suspected marijuana were found inside his car weighing nearly 60 grams.
Fisher was on probation for marijuana possession and would have been facing four years in prison if he had been found to have violated his probation.
