Harsh Words for Two Tier Property Tax Proposal in Crisfield

Don Rush

The Crisfield City Council got some push back during a public hearing yesterday against its two tiered property tax plan.

The proposal would increase the property tax for homeowners from 70 cent per $100 of assessed property value to 81 cents.

Rental property owners and those who own unoccupied property would pay twice that amount.

WBOC reports that condo owners would be the first hit with Melanie Chelton who owns one at Harbour Light Condominiums calling an increase devastating to our pocketbooks.

Council member Mark Konapelsky agreed adding a split tax rate is not fair and would send a bad message to people who want to settle in Crisfield.
