ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Flags in Maryland are flying at half-staff in honor of a longtime Baltimore County firefighter who died after he went into cardiac arrest during a training exercise.

County officials say 58-year-old Robert Fogle III died Friday afternoon while at a training exercise in the Sparrows Point area.  Officials say Fogle was going through a maze while wearing a breathing apparatus, a drill every firefighter does once a year. His heart stopped beating and he was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Fogle was a 27-year veteran of the department and was stationed in Pikesville. He is survived by a wife and two adult children.

A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department in Westminster. A memorial service will be held there Thursday.
