Gun Violence Strikes Wilmington

It’s been a bloody week for the city of Wilmington with three violent deaths in the span of 12 hours.

Last night the Wilmington Peacekeepers marched last night through the violence struck neighborhoods stopping along the way to mark the shooting deaths of victims as young as 16.

The marchers decried the violence that has killed 12 people in Wilmington so far this year at a clip that outpaces the number killed by this time in 2010, which saw a record number of such deaths.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the spate of violence left detectives tracking leads, families grieving and a frustrated community wondering what can be done to curb the violent crime plaguing Wilmington.

Community leaders met and suggested a state of emergency be declared to draw attention to what Pastor Derrick Johnson called a crisis situation.
