Delaware's Port Security

By Sarah Coyne

Wilmington, DE – Delaware Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons rejected a Republican proposal to make cuts to the Port Security Grant Program. This would include a 66 percent across-the-board cut towards security and emergency response efforts around the Port of Wilmington. More than 4 million tons of cargo passes through the port each year, making it the busiest port on the Delaware River. Last year the Bay area received over $15-million from the Port Security Grant program, but if the Republican resolution is passed the program would be reduced to a little over $5-million.
