The scorched earth politics of the modern Republican Party took hold in the 1980's with the rise Newt Gingrich who engineered the GOP take over of congress in 1994. But, was there another way to achieve a Republican majority on Capitol Hill? Julian Zelizer has written a new book, "Burning Down the House: Newt Gingrich, the Fall of a Speaker, and the Rise of the New Republican Party". In part two he tells Delmarva Public Media's Don Rush that there was another way forward, but that the road now taken may be very difficult to abandon.
