Character Dropped from Rock & Roll Revival After LGBTQ Complaint

An LGBTQ group has spoken out about a character in James Bennett High School’s annual Rock & Roll Revival.

The organization PFLAG said a male character dressed as a woman in the production appeared to be used “solely as a comedic prop.”

Mark Delancey, president of the local chapter, told the Salisbury Daily Times that students reached out to the group who said they felt they were being marginalized and discriminated against.

Tracy Sahler with the Wicomico County Board of Education told the paper that the character has been dropped from the show.

She said that the decision was made so as not distract from the show’s experience for the students crew and audience.
