Dover Mayor Hopes Wesley College Will Stay Open in City

Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen says he is hoping that state officials and others will be able to find adequate support to keep Wesley College going.

The private liberal arts school is now trying to stabilize its financial situation and stay in the city.

Christiansen told WBOC that the institution has a large foot print with its main campus in the city.

That includes the Old Dover Library and former federal building with occupational therapy and nursing programs.

Last month college president Bob Clark asked state officials for $3.2 million in financial assistance to make it eligible for federal money.

The school has more than one thousand students and up to 300 employees.
