Assateague Island Mourns Loss of Mare

Assateague Island has lost a 31-year-old mare known as “Miss T.”

Considered one of the oldest on the island she was humanely euthanized after she should could no longer stand.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that a Facebook page says she had lived most of her life in in the area near of a bayside campground.

She had foaled three times with one second-generation descendant.

Liz Davis with the Assateague Island National Seashore told the paper that she was one of 11 mares that are over 30-years-old.
