Eastern Shore Congressman Andy Harris met with President-elect Donald Trump in New York on Wednesday.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that he could be up for taking charge of the National Institutes of Health.
One of his top qualifications is that NIH has actually provided money for research he has conducted.
The Maryland Republican told the paper that he was willing to improve “one of the Crown Jewels” of the federal government.
The Daily Times reports that also in the running for the job is Dr. Francis Collins who is currently the agency’s director.
He also attended the meeting in New York and reportedly has the backing of several prominent Republicans.
