Delaware’s two largest animal shelters will not be taking strays that are found by animal control.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that instead First State Animal Center and SPCA and Delaware SPCA will concentrate on increasing revenue activities.
This includes such things as dog daycare.
Adam Lamb, executive director for the Brandywine Valley SPCA, told the News Journal that this could lead to more animals being euthanized.
The problem of placing animals has led to the Brandywine shelter sending some to rescue shelters in Pennsylvania and other states.
Meanwhile, First State is building a new dog daycare and boarding facility that will be at the Camden shelter that had been used for strays.
