Lewes Polar Bear Plunge Raises Over $800,000

The 25th annual Lewes Polar Bear Plunge raised $820-thousand this Sunday.

That’s up from $780-thousand last year.

And more than 35-hundred people found themselves diving into the cold waters of the Atlantic to raise money for Special Olympics Delaware.

When they dove in the water temperature was 43 degrees.

Last year it was down to 37.

The coldest plunge took place in 1995 with a minus 20-degree wind chill factor.

On Sunday the air temperature was a balmy 45 degrees.
