ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov. Larry Hogan's administration plans to seek financial penalties and corrective actions against Volkswagen after the automaker admitted cheating on emissions tests with a piece of software.
Ben Grumbles, Maryland Secretary of the Environment, said in a news release Monday that the department estimates that about 10,000 Maryland vehicles were affected by Volkswagen's actions.
The Department estimates that the affected vehicles emitted more than 700 tons of nitrogen oxides, which contribute to smog, since 2009.
