UD Police Say "Nooses" Were Paper Lantern Remnants

University of Delaware police say the reported nooses outside Mitchell Hall were not nooses after all.

WBOC reports that they say they have determined that instead they were remnants of paper lanterns from an event held on The Green.

The university has scheduled a 4:30 p.m. community meeting on The Green today for a dialogue given the sensitivity on campus.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Geri Wilson received a text message about nooses and ran toward the nearby residence hall at around 10 p.m.

She told the paper that she did not believe she would be confronted with such a sight.

In a previous statement acting University President Nancy Targett noted Monday night’s peaceful protest of a Fox pundit who has described the Black Lives Matter movement as a “violent hate group”.
