DOVER, Del. (AP) - Dover Downs Gaming and Entertainment narrowed its first-quarter loss compared to last year but says further cost-cutting is needed.
The company on Thursday reported a net loss of $352,000, compared to a $1 million loss for the first three months of 2014. Revenues dropped from about $45.5 million to slightly more than $44.3 million.
The company said it will stop offering unprofitable table games at its Dover Downs casino between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday, starting May 18, resulting in the elimination of 24 positions.
The move comes after the elimination of 21 positions through attrition last year and 10 more during the first quarter.
Casino industry officials have repeatedly pressed Delaware lawmakers to reduce the share of gambling revenue that goes to the state general fund.
