UMES Installs Metal Detectors, Responding to Social Media Chatter

The University of Maryland has installed metal detectors at entrances to the Student Services Center in response to concerns over social media chatter.

A message form the UMES police issued last night said that they were taking a proactive step to “dialogue detected on a social media site popular with college students. “

In addition, the university said students would be subject to questioning by campus authorities should the detectors be triggered.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the university’s message did not describe with any more detail what they found on the social media site.
