Safe Streets Program In Salisbury Gets Grant for Fifth Year

For the fifth year Salisbury’s Safe Streets Coalition is getting a state grant.

This time it’s for $260-thousand.

It’s part of $1.5 million in funding for the city’s police department during the past four and a half years.

Police Chief Barbara Duncan said she believes it is an investment that has paid off.

She noted that there has been a 50 percent reduction in violent crime since 2009.

Meanwhile, robberies have dropped by 49 percent while burglaries have declined by 62 percent.
