Humpback Whale Spotted in Delaware Bay

LEWES, Del. (AP) - A group of ferry riders has caught a rare glimpse of a massive humpback whale smacking the water in the Delaware Bay.

The Wilmington News Journal reports the moment was captured on video Tuesday aboard the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

Capitan Dave Macomber says they often see dolphins, but they've only seen a massive whale about a dozen times over the years. Macomber has worked on the ferry since 1990.

Macomber says he got word of a whale sighting Tuesday but held off on announcing it to passengers. He changed course slightly to where the whale was spotted and alerted passengers. Then the whale surfaced. The ferry made a wide circle around the whale to give passengers a good look.
