DNR Gets New Boat for Ocean City Area

The Department of Natural Resources got a new police boat for search and rescue as well as enforcement of fishing regulations in the Ocean City area.

The new 29-foot aluminum vessel has been designated NRP 150.

The gas-power craft cruises at a speed of 30 knots and can stay out in the water for up to 6 hours.

Its top speed is 47 knots.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the federal government paid for the craft that had a price tag of $265-thousand.

The deal with the feds involved an agreement by DNR to enforce striped bass fishing restrictions in federal waters that are 3-to-10 miles off the coast.

The paper reports that it’s part of a joint operation agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National marine Fisheries Service.
