Lt. Gov. Brown Not Ready To Legalize Marijuana

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown says Colorado and Washington state should be applauded for legalizing marijuana, but he wants to learn more about what happens in those states before supporting legalization in Maryland.

Brown, who is running for governor, talked about a variety of marijuana measures on Friday during a meeting with Baltimore lawmakers.

He says he firmly supports decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana. He says law enforcement resources can be better used on more important public safety concerns, and that black residents are disproportionately affected by current marijuana laws.

Brown also says he supports changes to Maryland's medical marijuana law, which has stalled under its current framework.

As for legalizing marijuana, Brown says: "I'm at the red light checking the intersection."
