GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a trooper shot a Georgetown man when questioning about a hit-and-run crash turned into a violent struggle.
The trooper was questioning 53-year-old Michael Rogers at his home on Thursday night about his involvement in the crash, when police say an intoxicated Rogers became uncooperative and struggled violently with the trooper. Police say a stun gun was not effective and the trooper fired his gun several times, striking Rogers in his upper body and lower extremities.
Rogers was taken to Beebe Hospital in critical condition. He is charged with second-degree assault that injures a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with force or violence and is hospitalized in Department of Corrections custody.
The trooper was treated and released. He is on routine administrative leave.
