The facility that turns gas from a Kent County landfill into energy is about to get expanded.
Much of the energy from Felton’s Sandtown Landfill will now be staying on Delmarva once the additions are made.
Jason Munyan, facility manager at the landfill, told WBOC that Sandtown captures greenhouse gases from 50 acres and uses it for three generators which generates three megawatts of power.
Soon, there will be two more for an additional two megawatts of power.
Delaware Electric Co-op says it will produce enough energy to power one thousand homes.
