Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland's Natural Resources Police have come up with a highly visible way of promoting boater safety.

The agency has declared Friday "Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day." Officers are urging people to join them in wearing personal flotation devices in the workplace.

Superintendent George Johnson says any fear of a fashion failure should be outweighed by the prospect of preventing even one fatality on Maryland waterways.

This is the second year of the promotion. It's a kickoff for National Safe Boating Week, which begins Saturday.
