ATLANTIC, Va. (AP) - Wallops Flight Facility employees will be briefed on NASA's investigation into the discovery of a noose at one of the Virginia center's buildings.
Chris Scolese, director of the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., will discuss the findings with Wallops employees Thursday.
In a March 29 memo obtained by The Associated Press, Scolese told colleagues that a contractor employee fashioned a piece of rope into a noose and handed it to a co-worker who was in a bad mood. The noose was left behind and was found by a contractor with another company, who reported it.
Scolese said the incident was intended as a joke, but was "deeply disturbing." He said the person who tied the noose has been denied access to NASA facilities pending results of the investigation.
