Parking Increase Has Rehoboth Officials Concerned

The proposed increase in discounted employee parking rate at the Rehoboth Park & Ride on Shuttle Road is drawing concern from some in the beach resort.

DART First State has a proposal that would increase the rate from $3 to $4 while most drivers would see the rate go up from $7 to $8.

And a new policy would limit the number of passengers in a vehicle to four.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that City Manager Gregory Ferrese said that the resort’s budget adopted this month was based on the $3 level.

He told the paper that he did not have a problem with the increase going into effect next year.

Meanwhile, Carol Everhart, President and CEO of the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, opposed the change saying that the local businesses and their employees would have to absorb the additional cost.
