GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - Poultry giant Perdue Farms is proposing using a fabric made by Newark-based W.L. Gore & Associates to help compost chicken manure.
Perdue is seeking permission from the Sussex County Council for the proposal to compost the manure at its AgriRecycle property between Laurel and Blades. The proposal calls for using a waterproof, but breathable barrier over the compost pile that would let water vapor out, but keep rain from getting in.
The News-Journal reports the proposal notes the plant would produce about 90 tons of compost a day. The compost could be sold for use in agriculture, landscaping, tree nurseries and other applications.
