UMES Mourns Loss

All classes at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore have been cancelled today.

It’s being called a “A Day of Reflection” in the wake of the stabbing death of Edmond St. Clair last Saturday night – the first murder on the campus in 35 years.

In addition, another tragedy has struck the campus with the apparent suicide of former student Dickson  Muiruri, who was also a Marine veteran.

UMES President Dr. Juliette Bell described the campus as shocked, pain, angry and sad.

A vigil will be held at 11 am at the performing arts center on campus.

Counseling and prayer services will be held through the day.

Some 3-thousand students and staff members gathered for a community meeting yesterday to remember the lives of the two students.
