PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) - The president of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore says it was "heart-wrenching" to inform the parents of a student that he had been fatally stabbed on campus.
Police say 21-year-old Edmond St. Clair died at a hospital Saturday night after he was stabbed during an altercation between two groups of people. Police are searching for the attackers.
University president Juliette Bell says her thoughts and prayers are with St. Clair's family. St. Clair was a junior from Severn.
According to police, St. Clair, his brother and another young man were driving through the campus when they came across three or four people walking in the street. The groups started fighting, and St. Clair was stabbed.
Saturday was the culmination of the historically black university's annual homecoming week.
