Senator Ben Cardin told the residents of Somerset County yesterday that they will not be forgotten in the wake of damage left behind by Hurricane Sandy.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency had initially denied certain funds for the area but reversed its decision with the president declaring the County a major disaster area.
The Maryland Democrat toured the community yesterday and told the County Commissioners…what happened in Somerset County has changed the way disaster assistance is handled.
He said that damage must be judged by what has occurred in that community not by the state.
Most of Maryland escaped major damage from Hurricane Sandy.
Meanwhile, Crisfield Mayor Percy Purnell told Cardin that his city was hard hit in part because many of the islands…that once protect the town are disappearing.
