No More Free Ride For Scooters in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - Scooter riders may no longer have a free ride in Rehoboth Beach next summer.

The city's Streets and Transportation Committee is proposing a new parking permit for scooter drivers to park their vehicles. The Daily Times reports permits would be required for both residents and nonresidents.

The committee determined the city should charge $40 to $50 for the summer or $15 to $20 per week. City commissioners will make the final decision on permit fees.

For cars, a weekly pass costs $45, and a seasonal pass can be purchased for $175.

City officials say scooter parking would be available in corrals the size of a few car parking spaces.

Motor scooters have become more popular in recent years. Residents noticed scooters parked on bike racks and sidewalks.
