Hundreds of police officers, political leaders and family of Lt. Jospeh Szczerba were on hand yesterday for the renaming of the New Castle County police academy in his name.
Szczerba was fatally stabbed a year ago as he struggled with a suspect.
During the ceremony his wife Kathy said the building reflects her husband’s commitment to serve others.
New Castle County Executive Paul Clark said that renaming the building after the fallen officer symbolized the lessons of self-discipline, compassion and duty.
These he said were taken to heart by Szczerba.
