Welcome to Salisbury University’s Cultural Calendar Highlights for May.
The SU Music, Theatre and Dance Department hosts a plethora of virtual musical performances throughout the month, beginning with the Salisbury and University Chorales, directed in concert by Dr. William Folger, on Saturday, May 1.
The Salisbury Pops, directed by Lee Knier, performs Tuesday, May 4, followed by the SU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jerry Tabor, on Thursday, May 6. A recital featuring the SU piano and strings students of Drs. Linda Cockey, Sachi Murasugi and Jeffrey Schoyen is Friday, May 7.
Three performances are featured on Saturday, May 8, as SU hosts two recitals in connection with this year’s Celebration of Great Composers that afternoon. In the evening, the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, directed by Schoyen, performs its culminating concert of the academic year, “I Got Rhythm.”
On Wednesday, May 12, cellist Schoyen and violinist Murasugi join pianist Earnest Barretta for the Allegheny Trio’s annual SU spring performance, “Variations on a Theme.” The concert features works by Brahms and Haydn, as well as a performance by SU senior pianist Genique Garrison.
SU’s spring cultural events series concludes with recitals by K-12 students in the University’s PRESTO performing arts preparatory program the week of May 17.
