If you have 11 minutes to spare, you might listen to the attached horrifying, but not surprising, story of Thomas Jeremiah, the wealthiest Black man in North America before the founding of the US.  I think of Thomas Jeremiah when we get news of government-sanctioned violence and court-approved vigilantism in the United States.
