A jury is now deciding the fate of three inmates in the prison uprising at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center that left one guard dead.

In some 60 hours of testimony in the New Castle County Courtroom the state found that Officer Steven Floyd bled to death during the 18-hour standoff and might have been saved.

Ben Gifford, who is representing one of the inmates told the Wilmington News Journal that what happed to Sgt. Floyd is a tragedy that should not have occurred.

The paper reports that there were no cameras in the building where the riot took place.

And there were no forensic matches to any particular individual on trial.

As for testimony by some of the inmate witnesses defendants Jarreau Ayers and Dwayne Staats said they were lying to get benefits in exchange for their testimony.

Both are already serving life sentences and are representing themselves.

They said their only intent was to highlight the conditions inside the prison.
